Demelza fundraising efforts - honorable mentions

Some of the fans wrote in to us to let us know how they raised money over the holiday season for Demelza Hospice Care for Children. We are actually incorporating the below fundraising campaign, Coins for Kids, on DanRadcliffe.com's Demelza mini-site to promote donations year round.

Coins for Kids

Our fundraiser, Coins for Kids, was designed by Cathy Fusco; President of The Sunshine Club for Children. The Sunshine Club for Children is a Non-Profit Organization which supports Dan's favorite charity: Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Our members are happy to be involved in bringing some much needed sunshine into the lives of the children. The object of this Fundraiser was to save our loose coins during the year and make one big donation to Demelza House at the end of the year.

We currently have five people who have been working on this project since its beginning and one newcomer, Vinson, who joined us just recently. We had been saving our coins for about seven months saved up $475.00. As Cathy has noted, "These days, donating money can be a real challenge, especially when we spend dollars, but make dimes. But of course the answer is right in your pocket! Grab a jar, and throw in those unwanted, unused coins...or how about that penny lying in the street, those are "Pennies from Heaven," and what better use for those pennies than to save them for Demelza House. In a year, I will guarantee you will have enough money to make a very generous donation."

And she was right! It is that simple! It is so easy to toss those loose coins into a jar, and amazingly, they do add up! This is one of the easiest ways I know of to donate money for a worthy cause; and in the end you know in your heart that you did a good thing. ~ Cathy Fusco, Christy Crays, Michelle Holt, Terri Smith, Judy Nathanson, and Vinson George

Subway Tokens

Even though I had participated in another fundraiser this year, I chose to do my own fundraiser to support two children hospices; Demelza House and The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. At first, I had wanted to give a worthy donation to Demela House, as the kids, their family and the facility need it. What I wanted to give and what I could afford to give was a big difference; so I decided to go ahead and do a fundraiser to make up the difference. The object of my fundraiser was that of selling Subway coupon books. One of the reasons why I chose to do this particular fundraiser was that the company who sponsors this fundraiser takes twenty-five cents out of each coupon book sold and donates it to The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. I was so impressed by their generosity that I decided to add The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan to my fundraiser as well. In the end I raised a total of $324.00 which will be divided up between both charities. I feel as though by stepping into the New Year and sending in two donation checks to two different children hospice organizations is just plain awesome. By helping others who are in need, I know I am starting the New Year off right; and what a fantastic feeling that is! ~ Christy Crays

Canadian Voices for Demelza, the choreographer's penalty box and Air Canada flight wallets

Dr.com staffer Coralie really went on a mission with her fundraising efforts over the winter holidays!

  • "Canadian Voices for Demelza": door to door Christmas Caroling on Friday Dec 16
  • The choreographer's penalty box: for all members of the Ste Marcelline theatre group who forgot an accessory or article of clothing required for any of the dance numbers I'm staging for their spring production of "Singing in the Rain."
  • A donation of $2.00 CAD for every Air Canada flight wallet sold between July 23 and December 16 was contributed by Uniglobe Voyages Carolann in Montreal. Total amount send to Demelza House this year: 150.00 GBP

David, who is a faithful member of ‘Canadian Voices for Demelza,’ forgot Daniel’s name but really wanted to get his message across when he sent an email to confirm his availability to go caroling:

Quote: "It's cool that Mr. Potter supports Demelza."

Overall fundraising efforts:

Between both Dan sites we were able to raise almost £4,000! This is most definitely a record breaker in our history of fundraising endeavors and we hope to increase that amount during our summer drive in July of this year!
