The Invention of Lying is written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson. The film is set in an alternate reality in which no one has ever lied. That includes the most unlikely people (politicians, advertisers) and the most unlikely of situations (at work, on a date, on the street).

It stars Gervais as a failed movie script writer who invents lying, and learns to yield its power for personal gain. Things then begin to get out of hand, tangled webs are woven, and he changes his fate and the fate of the entire world with this one groundbreaking discovery. Gervais is sweetly humorous and Jen Garner always oozes adorability. All in all, a great story that's well told but a little slow.
