In the flickering neon of a casino floor, a lone figure sits hunched over a slot machine, punching buttons and sipping on a luminous green cocktail. She mutters under her breath as the metallic beast swallows last of her hard-earned coins. It’s late and she has a busy day ahead of her tomorrow: she sweeps her robe around her and adjusts her pointy hat before…

Hang on… pointy hat? What the blazes is a witch doing in the middle of a casino? If you’d stumbled through the casino floor of the J.W. Marriott Resort in Summerlin, Las Vegas, during the last weekend of July 2006, you might well have asked the same question. The answer, dear reader, is Lumos, a symposium that swooped into town to bring discussion and investigation of the Harry Potter universe to the Muggle masses. Here, let me enlighten you some more.

Readers Raise Money for Demelza Hospice for Children Print E-mail

Demelza Hospice ACED Magazine partnered with actor website DanRadcliffe.com to raise funds for Demelza Hospice Care for Children this past holiday season.  ACED is an avid supporter of the Demelza Hospice Care for Children

A total of £1,383.21 was raised by our readership over a few weeks time, in addition to the thousands of pounds already raised earlier in 2006.  All readers who participated had the option to send wishes in to their favorite actor, Daniel Radcliffe.  Check out what these enthusiastic fans had to say below!  

(These wishes were also included in a professionally bound book for Daniel and delivered to him courtesy of Demelza.)

It’s amazing how little one remembers about events contained within one year when faced with writing a review of them.  Under duress I managed to come up with some important events in music, film, sports, science, world news and technology to what is the most random and incomplete review of 2006 you will have the misfortune to read.

Globe Have you ever heard one of your grandparents complain that winters aren’t as cold as they used to be? In many portions of the world they’re absolutely right! Global temperatures have been rising. The issue has been all over the news. With the release of An Inconvenient Truth on DVD in November and programming such as The Climate Code on The Weather Channel, global warming has become, if you’ll excuse the pun, a hot topic. But is it really the worldwide crisis that some experts have made it out to be? Does it merit the extraordinary measures called for in the Kyoto accords and the recently passed emissions cap in California or is it all much ado about nothing?
