From March 23rd to the 25th at the Hyatt Regency Bonaventure Resort in Weston, Florida, ACED Magazine had the privilege of attending the 2008 Florida SuperCon. The event included well-known celebrities, respected artists, amazing costume players, a loony YouTube personality, a DJ brought in directly from Los Angeles, a multitude of vendors, countless numbers of comic book fans and gamers, and so much more. The turnout was extraordinary to say the least. One of the highlights of the SuperCon was ACED Magazine being given the opportunity to meet and interview many wonderful entertainers such as Brian O'Halloran from Clerks and Clerks II, Natalia Tena, Devon Murray, Danelle Tabor and Hugh Mitchell from the Harry Potter films, Larry Kenney (best known as the voice of Lion-O in the Thundercats cartoon and as Count Chocula), and Dana Snyder (the voice of Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force). The celebrities were showcased in a classy red carpet event, which allowed for press and fans alike to take photos of their favorite stars. The SuperCon began on a Friday with highlights that included an opening ceremony, costuming and cosplay, Wheel of Fortune: Harry Potter Style, The Harry Potter Wizard Rock Ball, and an 11:00 p.m. dance party with DJ HeavyGrinder. The Harry Potter Wizard Rock Ball featured costumed fans of the J. K. Rowling series rocking out to music in a Harry Potter-themed setting. On Saturday, the second and busiest day of the SuperCon, the morning started off with the pre-judging of a costume competition. About an hour later, the Gamerz Paradise Video Game Room opened for patrons visiting the event, and continued until 3:00 a.m. the following morning. As the day progressed, there was an anime viewing room, a Sleeping Samurai Tournament, Harry Potter Jeopardy, a comic book trading post, and a workshop with various independent comic creators called Make Your Own Damn Indie Comic. The workshop explained the secrets of self-publishing and how to get one's own work to be seen by many. On Sunday, the final day of the Florida SuperCon, some of the more memorable moments included a Comic Pro Q&A, Harry Potter Group Photo Session and Roundtable Q&A, Belly Dance Workshop, the FSC Cosplay Contest, and the FSC V.I.P. After Party. If you're a fan of comic books, games, all things Harry Potter, or simply costume parties, then do yourself a favor and be sure to attend next year's Florida SuperCon. You won't be disappointed. Stay tuned for more upcoming interviews and coverage from this event! View some photos from the event:
