Join the cast and crew when the cameras roll as Jack Black (The School of Rock) and Mos Def (16 Blocks) are forced to re-create some of Hollywood’s greatest hits in Be Kind Rewind. Watch the mahem as the two town misfits are turned into local celebrities.

After Black inadvertently erases a video store’s entire VHS inventory, he has no choice but to get the whole neighborhood involved in an attempt to “re-shoot” modern classics such as Ghostbusters and Driving Miss Daisy. Using an outdated video camera and their own special effects, experience the antics of these two outcasts as they attempt to save the local video store!

DVD Features:

  • Includes both Widescreen (16x9) and Full-screen (4x3) versions
  • Featurette: Passaic Mosaic - a tribute to the people and places of Passaic, New Jersey

Critique:

Although Be Kind Rewind has some of today's funniest actors in it, it wasn't really very funny. There is nothing particularly believable about it, but it is still fun to watch, even though there are no laugh-out-loud moments.

I expected something a little different than was delivered in this movie. And even though Be Kind Rewind wasn't a comedy like I expected, it still wasn't a bad film.

Really, the "bad luck" Jerry brings about when he accidentally erases all of the VHS tapes is actually not bad luck at all. In fact, because he and Mike set out to bring in the rest of the community to create these films they did so much more than entertain -- they built a community that previously did not exist.

The performances by all in this film were definitely above par. The ending had a welcomed warmth and a slice of realism that you don't see in many movies. Although it isn't the happiest of endings, it still gives the viewer hope.
