Critique: Although Be Kind Rewind has some of today's funniest actors in it, it wasn't really very funny. There is nothing particularly believable about it, but it is still fun to watch, even though there are no laugh-out-loud moments. I expected something a little different than was delivered in this movie. And even though Be Kind Rewind wasn't a comedy like I expected, it still wasn't a bad film. Really, the "bad luck" Jerry brings about when he accidentally erases all of the VHS tapes is actually not bad luck at all. In fact, because he and Mike set out to bring in the rest of the community to create these films they did so much more than entertain -- they built a community that previously did not exist. The performances by all in this film were definitely above par. The ending had a welcomed warmth and a slice of realism that you don't see in many movies. Although it isn't the happiest of endings, it still gives the viewer hope.
