![]() Rated: R The dynamic duo from Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, join forces once again in Step Brothers, directed by Adam McKay. Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) and Dale Doback (John C. Reilly), who are still living at home, are brought together as step brothers living under the same roof when Brennan's mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen), and Dale's father, Robert (Richard Jenkins), decide to marry and move in together. At first, being in such close proximity creates turmoil for the two unemployed and unmotivated step-brothers, but it doesn't take long for them to realize that they share the same interests and man-child mentality, which essentially links their very souls, putting their initial hatred for each other to rest. In its wake is the creation of an uber, sleep-walking, bunk bed-sharing, man-child. With their new-found common ground, Brennan and Dale venture out in search of a more age-fitting lifestyle in hopes of proving to their family their capability for self-dependency and adequacy. "I'm burying you!" yells Ferrell as the character Brennan, while he proceeds to bury his step-brother Dale in an early grave, as well as his own career as an actor for taking part in this summer's most moronic movie. While the no doubt comedic role of man-child has worked well for Ferrell in the past, watching him wipe his balls on a drum set is a little too much to handle. Although Step Brothers did have its moments of humor, as few and far in between as they were, I would highly recommended you take your money and go see The Dark Knight instead. Watching Will Ferrell get smashed by the top bunk bed should succeed in eliciting a laugh or at least a chuckle. The chemistry between the two brothers and their reactions to each other and the world around them was cute, and there were definitely some fun moments, but nothing we haven't seen before. If you're a die hard sucker for overgrown children like Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly, then its possible that this film could be worth a rental.
