Fans of Trapt will have to wait until next year to get their hands on the band"s next studio album, but they have a new live record to satisfy their yen for some serious no-nonsense neo-grunge/metal pulsation until then. Recorded during their 2005 tour, Trapt’s first live album Trapt Live! begins with two studio numbers, "Stay Alive" and "Everything to Lose". The rest of the record offers live versions of their singles "Headstrong", "Still Frame" ,"Echo" and six more. The two new songs from this California raised-Vancouver based band hint at a maturation that could set them apart from the Soundgarden and Metallica clones that have dogged music since the millennium. Chris Brown’s edgy tenor sounds like a more impassioned Eddie Vedder with a hint of Chris Cornell’s signature growl solidly standing on grunge architecture that doesn’t shun virtuosity for droning power distortion. There’s even some unexpected grace in "Headstrong", in which Brown indulges in calculated interplay with the fans. The endearing result swaps gratuitous sonic backdrop for triumphant musical apparatus. You certainly can’t say they don’t love their fans. Brown sets up "Hollowman" with a fan dedication “that anyone who is passionate about music as you are could never be a "Hollowman” to the thunderous cheers of an audience. Just listen to that crowd go wild when guitarist Simon Ormandy’s searing guitar kicks in on the chorus of "Disconnected". Like any dedicated fan at a grunge concert, they’re there because they want to make some noise, which Trapt happily returns with equal fervor.
