Synopsis: Based on Mariane Pearl's account of the terrifying and unforgettable story of her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl's life and death. Transcending religion, race and nationality, Mariane"s courageous desire to rise above the bitterness and hatred that continues to plague this post 9/11 world, serves as the purest expression to the joy of life she and Danny shared. DVD Features:
Critique: A Mighty Heart is the type of film that keeps playing in your mind long after you've turned off the DVD player. Based on true events, this story is gut-wrenching to the very end. The performances are haunting. If there is one intense drama you settle down to watch this year—it should be this film. Even if you've read about the story in the news, nothing beats a dramatic portrayal when it is so well done. Jolie is flawless. All of the actors gave above-the-line portrayals, each with their time to shine at varying moments throughout the movie. I think it is fabulous that Director Michael Winterbottom does not shy away from the obvious antisemitism aspects behind why Pearl was targeted and killed (he was both American and Jewish). Another major plus working in this production's favor is the ending—it has a perfect balance—without melodrama or embellished sentiment. Bravo! The extra features on the DVD are definitely worth a view, but the true gem here is the film.
