Artist: Junior Senior
After the mass success and dance floor death and destruction caused by their debut album, D-D-Don't Don't Stop the Beat, the Danish duo Junior Senior is back with their incredible beat and a whole new album full of catchiness and fun. The duo, Junior (Jesper Mortensen) and Senior (Jeppe Laursen), first broke into the music scene in 2003 with their highly acclaimed single "Move Your Feet". The song, a feverish frenzy of pop and dance, would later climb through several positions on top music charts across the globe, and the album itself was named one of the best of 2003 by several leading publications. The same is expected for their latest, Hey Hey My My Yo Yo. This new album has both the addictive beat and catchiness of their previous work, but also a new surge of whimsical fun. The first indication of this is "Hip Hop A Lula", a satisfyingly energetic track, loaded with rhymes and rhythms sure to get you moving. The same is true for "We' R the Handclaps", the musical equivalent of a massive kaleidoscope. This song has so many sounds laced into one insanely addictive three minutes—easily the best three minutes of the album. "Take My Time", and "Can I Get Get Get", also stand out and shine as the album's better songs. These songs, so consistently packed with amazing lyrics (and equally brilliant vocal work) as well as vivacious dance beats, are what make this album so great. Without a doubt, Junior Senior have created an album that is sure to rival the success of their debut, if not surpass it completely. Fun, energetic, and so wonderfully addictive, Hey Hey My My Yo Yo is one of the best albums this year.
