Musicians of all kinds want to bring about change. Some of you may have heard of Live Earth—the carbon-neutral music festival?
Yes, well, more is being done to help the environment as I type. Music Manufacturing Services is offering the option of making more environmentally friendly CDs.
How is this possible?
"Let's face it, there's no such thing as a truly environmentally-friendly compact disc. The discs themselves are made of metal and plastic. But more and more, musicians want to reach their fans in an environmentally friendly way. So, we're doing everything we can to help them do that."
If what Lindsay Gillespie, President and Founder of Music Manufacturing Services (MMS) says is true, what can be environmentally friendly about them? She goes on to say, "Maybe we can't change the disc itself, but we can change the CD packaging - and that will have a huge impact on a CD's overall environmental impact."
MMS manufactures millions of CDs each year, for both independent musicians and labels. This bold movement is called the Green CD Program, and it's the first of its kind in North America.
The environmentally friendly CDs will be using 100% recycled plastic and bio-degradable PaperFoam trays for DigiPaks. Even the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) has approved this standard for most CD projects. MMS will continue using only vegetable-based inks for ALL packaging.
MMS doesn't just manufacture CDs, but DVDs and records as well. They are partners with The Vinyl Factory, as well as the independent music distributor and label, Outside Music.
Visit the official site for MMS for more information on this revolutionary idea.
