Critique:
This is not a movie for everyone. It is more a combination of Wayne's World antics, with a little Napoleon Dynamite and a touch of Nacho Libre thrown in.
Hot Rod is not a thought-provoking film. Some of the leg work is just so stupid you have to laugh. It has one of those you-get-it-or-you-don't senses of humor sprinkled here and there to the end of the film. There is a bit of heartfelt drama at the close, but nothing very heavy.
If you liked any of the aforementioned movies, you may very well like this one. I took away a few good laughs anyway. The features on the DVD are very similar in mood to that of the film. They have their own kind of humor as well. A great rental for rainy days or sleepy Sundays.
