Having never seen Star Trek before, I didn"t really know
what to expect. I knew it had a huge following, and could easily have drawn a
picture of Spock"s ears. However, both its plot line and its reasons for
admiration were lost on me. For those of you as ignorant as I was, here"s the
rundown:
Star Trek chronicles the events aboard the Starship
Enterprise. The 1966 show follows crew members Captain Kirk (William Shatner),
Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) as they explore
space, defend other planets, and test the limits of our galaxy. The show is set
in the 23rd century and features objects such as a teleportation
device by using an object similar to a modern-day cell phone. The 29-epsiode first
season tests the limits of power, imagination, and identity.
While the setting of Star Trek does at times border on
cheesy, one must remember that the technology at the time was nowhere close to
that of the modern era, and at any rate, the focus of the show is not on its
cinematography.
And while the ignorant viewer might expect a bad science
fiction show, Star Trek rises above; the plots, while phantasmagorical, are
solid. They examine the fundamental questions of life and create universality
between the 21st century viewer, the 20th century producer,
and the 23rd century characters.
Values, morality, and life’s
central quandaries are virtually the same; Star Trek examines the good and bad
inherent in everyone, the effects of outside influences on reason, and the
limits of human power, to name a few. While at first it appears to be a strange science fiction show created
in the technologically limited age of the 1960s, further investigation yields a
surprisingly astute show that reveals more about ourselves than it does any
future lives.
The DVD includes both HD and standard formatting with special
features including an “Interactive Enterprise Inspection” and commentary.

They gave 100 Flip camcorders to 100 college students around the country and told them to get inspired and surprise us with some video footage of their own design.
Different themes guided them, some were open-ended, others were scavenger hunts and others were questions only they could answer.

With the addition of Jessi (Jaimie Alexander), a teenager who may or may not be connected to Kyle (Matt ...
Drs. McNamara and Troy are back – well, sort of. This season they have absconded from Miami and opened a new practice in Los Angeles with dysfunctional friends and family in tow. L.A. City of Angels. Tinseltown. La-La Land. The place that's made a
bundle selling glamour, illusion and dreams -- the perfect place for the
newly relocated plastic-surgery practice of McNamara/Troy.
