Critique:
The storyline for Sunshine is unique, if not somewhat similar. During the opening sequence I had flashbacks of HAL from the film 2010, but that soon went away once things really got going. There are no glitches on this mission because of a computer malfunction...more like human frailty.
The visuals in this production are stunning, as well as the imaged symbolisms presented throughout the film. If nothing else grabs you while you are watching, the scenic drama surely will.
All of the actors did fine jobs portraying their seemingly two-dimensional personae. Murphy went a little further and effortlessly transitioned his character in the third act, taking on a completely new dynamic by the movie's end.
Speaking of the ending for Sunshine, itwas definitely an interesting twist, albeit just a little too...Freddie Krueger. That is all I will say about that...
There are a few great features on the disc, with a few non-relational short films to boot. To get the best "features" for the buck you'd need the HD version of this release as it has a few extras in comparison to the "standard" DVD.
Final Analysis: If you like sci-fi, are a fan of Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, or you like a great visual ride, Sunshine is the perfect film for you!
I thought this was a great movie. The visual effects were stunning, and I agree, Cillian Murphy did do a great job, but so did Chris Evans and the other actors. The one woman, holding the plant - the last plant - in her hands near the end before she died was an amazing symbolic reference.
