Critique:
While this film received mixed reviews, I for one enjoyed watching it. It was successfully suspenseful and a bit more believable than the "pod people" concept. Of course, you might not want to eat any type of substantial meal while you are taking it all in as some scenes are somewhat disgusting.
The acting and action sequences are well done. For me, this was a step up from the previous versions of this classic tale. Of course, the underlying tone entails the fear of assimilation and the cost of "peace" on earth. Should people lose themselves and conform to maintain a sense of unity or should they maintain their individuality and be subject to persecution or criticism? Honestly, I prefer a little adversity to a unified conglomerate of nothing special.
There is also the underlying microbe-phobia. One gets a sense the writer has a certain aversion to germs, biological warfare and the common cold—but then, who doesn't...
The extras are a combined set of behind-the-scenes clips, movie bits, cast and crew interviews and documentary footage. All together they make a great feature.
Final Analysis: This is a nice assemblage of suspense, acting and cinematography. It is not an action flick by any stretch, but you do get a few snippets of amped up foot work here and there throughout the film. Great for Sci-Fi lovers.
