Artist: The Whigs
Album: Mission Control Web Dwelling: thewhigs.com
With their current release Mission Control on ATO Records, The Whigs have made the smooth transition from being "...perhaps the best unsigned band in America" (Rolling Stone), to being undeniably one of the best ever signed to a label.
Even after the departure of their original bassist, Hank Sullivant, in
late 2006, they've managed to turn out some pretty thrilling music with
now permanent replacement Tim Deaux.
Parker Gispert's raw vocals give the album its heart and soul while a veritable melting pot of sound created by the band's skillful musicianship gives it its flavor. Mission Control presents us a garage rock band with a mind to experiment with the brutal edge of punk rock; the grim poetic earnestness of grunge; and the carefree vivacity of the classical age of rock and roll. The album is a short ride that winds, twists and turns. In its wake, you'll find yourself back in line for another go.
What we like best: "Already Young", "Like A Vibration", "Hot Bed" and our personal favorite, "Right Hand On My Heart". You can imagine the good times had by all in front of a stage watching these guys beat it out of themselves for your enjoyment. Mission Control seriously gives you the urgent need to experience this. Your earphones can't go up any louder on this one. The drums can't drive your heartbeat any faster. The riffs can't reverberate through you any deeper. This one goes straight to the bones. Cheers to The Whigs. Their mission's accomplished.

They gave 100 Flip camcorders to 100 college students around the country and told them to get inspired and surprise us with some video footage of their own design.
Different themes guided them, some were open-ended, others were scavenger hunts and others were questions only they could answer.
