Honoured Actor:
Samuel L. Jackson
By Kevin Kobori
Actor Samuel L. Jackson, whose films have grossed over $3.6
billion dollars, left his mark on Hollywood Boulevard, placing
his hands and feet in wet cement in front of Mann’s
Chinese Theater, where so many that Mr. Jackson had been inspired
by himself had done so before.
Samuel L. Jackson began his career in 1972’s “Together
for Days” and since has starred in over 104 films, playing
everything from his Oscar nominated performance as gangster
Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction to Jedi Knight Mace Windu
in this past year's Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the
Sith. Freedomland, where he co-stars with Julianne Moore,
opens February 17th.
Jackson looked confident and cool, as always, wearing a
beanie cap, as Hollywood honorary mayor Johnny Grant made
his opening marks recalling Jackson’s incredible career.
Fellow director Joe Roth also made remarks. Jackson said of
the ceremony, “It’s an awesome sort of experience,
the kind of thing you don’t really think about as a
young actor. You sort of stop to pause and say to yourself,
wow, you're in a very elite club.”
When I asked Jackson if he had any advice for younger actors
in the spotlight who are struggling to handle the intense
media attention he said, “Well you try not to take anything
personally, it’s part of what we do every day. You continue
to go to work, you continue to get up, and you continue to
get inspired by the stories that you want to tell, and not
by the fame.”
