The Da Vinci Code : The Review

By : Michael

Okay, should I first describe what it took to get my hands on this book? I asked two friends if I could borrow their copy but they each eyed me with suspicion; obviously this was no ordinary book... So then trips to two different local libraries and I found that all their individual copies were loaned out. A trip to the local "mom & pop" bookstore: all sold out. Obviously, there must be some good reason why this book is #10 on the best seller list. Okay, so in final desperation I hit one of those mega-bookstores (Barnes & Noble) and then finally I had the book in hand.

I started reading, already knowing a little prior information about what was going to be discovered in the book but still I was completely surprised. First, I expected a book of historical nonfiction and this turns out to be a fictional novel that has its basis in several key historical facts..., none of which I'm going to tell you because that would steal some of the mystery for you. Second, it's just so well-written. Nobody since Robert Louis Stevenson has ever been so good at intrigue and suspense as this author Dan Brown. Let me just say that you HAVE to read this book. It's like finding the original screenplay for that Indiana Jones movie or something, this is an incredible story and a serious page-turner. The fact that some of what's going on may be actually true is nothing short of mind boggling. Although at least one of the plot complications may seem familiar from another storyline you might have seen or heard I don't think that it largely detracts from the excitement of this novel.

I highly recommend this book. In fact, if you don't have it yet you might want to hold off until the special illustrated editon comes out on November 2nd, 2004. I just know that this next edition will be fantastic since the story is so visually rich. Think Christmas, (as in when people ask you want you want for it).
